Today, we welcome a new DxD partner, YWCA National Capital Area, a nonprofit on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Their Bold Goal is to ensure that a majority of women and girls across the Washington, D.C. area have the resources and support necessary to achieve personal, professional, and educational success.

Since 1905, YWCA NCA has served communities in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia through youth empowerment and mentorship, adult education and training, racial justice advocacy and civic engagement, entrepreneurship education, and extensive community support including a food pantry & clothing closet.

They’re currently gearing up for their EmpowerSTEAM Summer Academy, a free summer program for young women aged 10-17 focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Art, &  Math) activities.

The YWCA NCA has had a significant influence on DxD, making them the ideal nonprofit partner for the coalition. The organization has not only hosted Design= workshops but has also played a crucial role in developing the upcoming Design= curriculum kit, which is a free, open-source design curriculum designed specifically for high school students.

“It has been a joy to work with the DxD team. It’s great to have a partner who shares our passion for expanding the horizons of young girls of color. I am excited to see this partnership grow,” said Kelsey Norton, Manager of Youth Programs at YWCA National Capital Area.

Andréa Pellegrino, CEO Impact Collaborative, DxD’s managing entity, agrees. “The YWCA NCA is DxD’s dream partner. We share a commitment and vision of the future, where those that have been historically excluded from the best opportunities, now have access to and full equity in all that’s available.”

Please join us in welcoming the YWCA NCA to the DxD partner team and, the next time you’re in DC, stop in and show your support to this amazing organization…volunteer, spend time with the students, or write them a nice check.
