How can design help families and communities escape poverty, homelessness, and social injustice? By creating living spaces that build stability and confidence for families working to transform their lives.

Dwell with Dignity, a Dallas-based nonprofit, is guided by the belief — and data — that lives are empowered through a safe, functional, and beautiful home. Volunteer designers work together with businesses that donate home furnishings and items to create an environment where families can thrive. And it’s working.

To date, 230 spaces have been renovated — and the impact is real.

  • 95% heads of household remained employed for 12 months following their transformation
  • 89% saw positive changes in their children’s academic performance
  • 94% saw a positive change in their children’s behavior
  • 100% of participants feel more in control of their lives

When we learned about Dwell with Dignity, we couldn’t help but invite them to join the coalition as a DxD Partner. And we’re proud to announce that they agreed.

As a nonprofit partner, DxD and Dwell with Dignity will work together to help inform and activate initiatives that catalyze a more equitable society through design, a goal at the heart of both organization’s missions. It’s a perfect partnership, after all. Dwell with Dignity is an incredible coalition in and of itself, making a huge difference in people's lives and the communities in which it serves.
